CUPA SUMMER is an immersion program in Paris which provides intensive work in French language, a selection of content courses in Art History, Literature, and the Social Sciences, and abundant opportunities for significant contact with the French language and culture.
The program is open to undergraduate or graduate students with previous background in French and strong motivation to engage in a challenging summer program.
A language pledge is signed by all participants and must be respected for the duration of the program: students are required to speak only in French both at CUPA and during all program-sponsored activities and in their homestays.
Classes are held at the CUPA study center next to the Luxembourg gardens in the heart of the Montparnasse neighborhood, and within walking distance to the Quartier Latin. Research facilities available to students include study areas and computer facilities at the center, and access to the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand as well as numerous other libraries (Bibliothèque Forney for art, Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris, Beaubourg, etc.)
The program will be held from June 10th to July 21st, 2012.
Curriculum
Students enroll in two credit-bearing courses(one in each category) among the following:
Intensive Language Course
Depending on their level of competency in French, students may take either a course in Advanced Grammar and Stylistics or a language course at the high intermediate level.
A choice of liberal arts offerings, all taught by French university faculty (in Social Sciences, Art History, Literature, etc.)
Housing
Students opting for a home stay (which is strongly recommended) have a private room in the home of one of CUPA’s carefully selected host families, receive breakfast daily, and share 5 evening meals per week with their hosts. Students may, however, opt for independent housing if desired.
Cultural offerings
In addition to the numerous festivals and special events held in Paris during this particularly active period of the year, a number of activities are sponsored and organized by the program such as:
